About Carole Joseph

Biography Carole Joseph lives in Centre-du-Québec and has been teaching at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières in the visual arts department since 2014. Having accumulated a bachelor's degree in graphic design at Université Laval as well as a DESS in college teaching, she has produced personal works for several years, but is only just beginning to exhibit her work to the general public.

Approach As an artist and graphic designer by trade, I am always looking for an opportunity to express my feelings through art. Illustrator, painter and photographer, I sail between the figurative and the abstract, between the wacky and the melancholic; according to the emotions.

I see myself as an explorer. I have long used black and white photography as a writing method. Constantly transforming it by adding simple mediums such as graphite and charcoal to add depth, warmth, and even texture. I quickly understood that mixed medium was the solution for me to all these years of exploration and identity quest in the art world. The marriage of graphite drawing and cyanotype was a revelation. This ancient technique of printing light allows you to freeze an image while adding a personal touch in the development process. I can now represent reality as photography did while exposing my sensitivity to the subject by playing with the intensity of the blues and the rendering on different supports (fabric, wood, canvas board).

I try to rely on the visual quality of my environment to move forward. A kind of anchor point in my creative process. I focus my current production on the Quebec flora in symbiosis with the human body. I try to represent the fragility of the woman in mourning for her motherhood.
